We need your help in the movement to cure arthritis

As some of you know, in March of 2008 our very special little girl, Meghan, was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 4. As you can imagine Peter and I were experiencing a range of emotions from terrified to numb and everything in between. We knew nothing about the disease other than it was progressive and potentially very debilitating. My first thought was that my little girl's life will be changed forever. We read about the disease and of course became more confused and concerned than ever. Before her diagnosis Meghan never complained of pain or discomfort so we never had a clue that there was anything seriously wrong. We found a great support team in her doctor, physical therapist, family and friends. The professionals were so informative and knowledgable about the disease, they quickly educated us and helped us overcome many of our fears.
Meghan began taking medication and physical therapy. She is doing great with her meds and at this point no longers needs pt anymore. This fall she played soccer and she is continuing with her dance class which she loves. Meghan, at the age of 5, understands her disease and is able to communicate when she needs a break or something is too hard for her to do. I must tell you, that is not very often.
JRA is a disease that affect millions of children and their families everyday. We are very lucky that Meghan has adjusted so well but many other children are not as fortunate. As a matter of fact, at Meghan's last doctors appointment we were given the great news that the arthritis is no longer active in her knee, only her ankle. You can ony imagine how thrilled we are with her progress.
Even though our little girl is doing so well we want to help those less fortunate. PLEASE join us either by walking with us on May 17th in Paramus or by making a donation to the Arthritis Foundation. There are millions of children just like Meghan out there who need our support, please do what you can.
